Are Bigger Websites Better?

Is a 3 Page Website better then a 100 Page Website?
All depends on the type of website we are creating.
If the site is created for a select few users who will be the only ones accessing it and all it requires is a few pages of information then a 3 to 5 page website will suffice. In this case there is no desire to rank high on the SERP (Search Engine Results Page) or increase our sites popularity, because the only purpose is to inform a small segment of users. So build a site that fills your users immediate needs and requirements without going overboard. An example of this could be a website for your local snooker club where you only want keep a small group of players advised on the daily or weekly activities and there is no interest in increasing the readership to outsiders, so a small site is fine. Despite having only a few number of webpages on your site, it has to be organized and the content well presented. Ensure a quality read and a pleasant viewing site.
In the case of a site like my learnweb101 (a tutorial and an information site); it needs to have a lot of information for all the different types of visitors and I want to increase my SERP for obvious reasons, so the site needs to be very big; the more information the better; at least 200 to 1000 pages I think would work well for me. Of course I will need time and lots of information but not to worry I am working on it.
With an increased number of webpages and a variety of topics on each page the chances of showing up high in a search query get better. The higher the position on a SERP the greater the hits from new users and the better the PageRank of your website. The better the PR, the higher your position and you get the picture. It becomes a vicious circle almost like a snowball effect. Before you know it your website gets thousands of hits per day.
Well that all sounds very nice and exciting, but you must understand that lots of information arranged haphazardly, without the correct titles, meta tags, keywords, headings etc will not do well for your site. So it is a combination of great content along with the previous mentioned pieces that will get you ranked higher during a search. So although a bigger site is better it has to be planned and configured correctly for it to be effective.
In summary small or big, few webpages or many, you need quality content, visually pleasing and well organized.
