Meta Descriptions Help In Google Search Relevancy – Again.
June 13, 2010 No CommentsIn May, Google tweaked their search engine algorithm. Well, the fine tuning of any search engine logic will be continual, since information is big business; and as in any business you need constant adjustments to remain profitable (yes, they want to make even more money) and most importantly remain ahead of the competition.
During the early years of Google, Meta Keywords and Description played an integral part in a Websites ranking and position in SERP. Then Google considered the description as form of spam technique. Now it seems that Google is once again going to include the Meta Tags as part of the search relevance of your website.
What I find is that most website owners and webmasters tend to get hung up on trying to constantly please the search engines and it’s idiosyncrasy logic of website ranking by continually tweaking and making changes to their sites. Instead of creating a good website with fantastic content, they worry too much about meeting every requirement “they think” they need to have to be ranked higher in a SERP. So I say; let’s not worry about trying to figure out what the Google’s, Yahoo and the Bing’s want. Let’s actually create a site for our clients and visitors.
I don’t mean that we don’t create sites that conform to the requirements of the search engines. Those parameters should all be taken care of during the design stages of our site and to avoid a band-aid job after our website is on the web. So continue to include your Meta Tags on all of your web pages, with the right Keywords and Description during your design phase.
